Adult
Education
As Elders one of our concerns
is the spiritual growth of our members. How do we help
you grow spiritually?
1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that
by it you may grow up in your salvation . . .
1 Corinthians 3:2
I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet
ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
Hebrews 5:12
In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers,
you need someone to teach you the elementary truths
of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid
food!
Hebrews 5:13
Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is
not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
(NIV)
As you can see from these verses,
we are challenged to grow spiritually. We do not want
to be said of us what Paul said of the Corinthians,
or the Hebrew writer to the early Jewish Christians.
Our vision to accomplish this
is partially achieved through adult education. In the
past we have been somewhat haphazard with our approach
to adult education; we felt it necessary to change and
become more focused.
We are doing this by creating
a 7 year plan for classes. This plan is to be our guide
for the things we teach in our classes. It is not written
in stone but covers the areas we feel can help each
of us grow.
This requires that some of us
step out and take on the responsibility of being a teacher.
Last winter we asked you to volunteer to be a teacher,
and some of you have, but we need more of you to step
up and do so. We will do every thing we can to equip
you in this task.
We are preparing classes right
now for the Fall quarter and would like to have Winter
quarter filled in by mid-August. We cannot accomplish
this without your help.
I have been tasked with organizing
our Adult teachers, so please let me know what you can
teach. I know for me that I have always learned more
when teaching, or if you will, guiding discussion, than
I have when not doing so.
As I mentioned earlier, the class list is a guide for
the areas we feel should be taught. If you have an idea
for a class, please bring me a brief outline and we
will try to include it.
It is important that we grow spiritually and that our
relationship with Jesus makes a difference in our lives
and the lives of those we come into contact with.
