This Summer

When we first started CARE groups this last February, we said we would discontinue meeting as groups by the first Sunday in June. This was to provide an opportunity for additional training of our present and future CARE group leaders. It was meant to provide an opportunity to do some things we don't usually get to do on Sunday mornings. Mainly, though, it was meant to bring as many of us as possible back together as a church-to tighten the ties that bind, so to speak. Groups will begin again in September.

We are asking for your participation Sunday evenings this summer. Out of respect for you and concern for your spiritual well-being, we are planning the following activities. Please keep this somewhere handy. If you hear someone saying they don't know what's going on this summer, then share this with them. Help us get the word out!

The first twenty minutes of the evening service will be spent worshipping and communing together. We will begin and end in prayer, spend some time singing, partaking together the Lord's Supper, and some will take turns delivering a five minute devotional. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer for those who want to present the devotional. All of us will meet together for the first twenty minutes.

The rest of the hour can be spent in one of the following ways:

1) Children up to third grade can participate in Kids for Christ. Peggy Moore and her staff have been working on a good program for the summer.

2) Children from third to ninth grade can participate in a Timothy/Tabitha class. These are designed to teach our young people how serve the church (lead singing, lead prayer, serve communion, give short talks, etc. in gender appropriate ways). As the summer progresses, more and more of the devotional periods will be led by these young people.

3) Joyful Noise class which will spend the summer learning new songs and introducing them to us on Sunday evenings during the devotional period. By the end of the summer, the songs can be introduced to the congregation on Sunday mornings.

4) In the main auditorium, we will be presenting different nationally known speakers in Churches of Christ. We have purchased some DVDs of Jeff Walling, Harold Shank, etc. from their lessons at Pepperdine. They are wonderful lessons, and we want to share them with you. If you have DVDs of famous speakers of Churches of Christ, let us know and we will schedule them for viewing.

5) Sunday Night for the Master will spend the rest of the hour calling, sending cards to, or visiting those who are ill or in the hospital, those with birthdays or anniversaries, and those who visited that morning in our worship.

Also, we'll have a potluck every Sunday night with different themes. For instance, one night we'll have BBQ. Other themes will include Hawaiian, Mexican, Sandwiches, Italian, Baked Potatoes, Hamburgers/Hotdogs, etc.
This is the most ambitious scheduling we have done in the past six years. Please participate in it with us!
